Rules added in 2024

Rules added in 2024

These rules will start with the 2024 season.

Free Throw Procedures:

The NFHS (National Federation of State High School Associations) and OHSAA (Ohio High School Athletic Association) have implemented new rules at the High School level where the 1 and 1 Bonus after 7 team fouls has been eliminated.  The new rule is that 2 shots will be awarded after 5 team fouls in a quarter and team fouls will reset at the end of each quarter.  This is a new rule that our referees have been trained on and they will do their best to work with the clock operators to ensure that team fouls are reset on the scoreboard after each quarter.  Please DO NOT yell at the referees or the scoreboard operators (many of whom are grade school and high school kids).  Below is a link that gives more detail on this change:

Ball Spot Out of Bounds:

The NFHS (National Federation of State High School Associations) and OHSAA (Ohio High School Athletic Association) have implemented new rules at the High School level:

  • If a foul or a timeout, the ball will be placed at 4 designated spots on the floor:
    • anything outside of 3 feet of the lane, the ball will be taken out at the 28-foot mark (it is not the same in every gym, so the volleyball line will be utilized in gyms that have this marking).  These 2 spots will be on either side of the floor
    • anything within 3 feet of the lane, the ball will be taken out under the basket.  These 2 spots will be on either side of the floor
  • If the ball is knocked/thrown out of bounds, the ball will be taken out at the spot where it went out.
  • Once again, the referees for our league will be trained on this and will communicate with our coaches on this new rule.  DO NOT YELL at the referees because you think that the ball should be taken out somewhere else.
